“Two Men Fighting for the Road” – An Inauspicious Endeavor

In a courtroom, the key to winning a debate is to expose the opponent’s faults. Simply insisting on one’s own righteousness is futile. This hexagram

reminds us: “A nobleman plans before trouble arises.” It warns against legal disputes and conflicts.

One of the most effective ways to prevent and resolve disputes is concession.

Concession, however, must follow a principle: yielding to buy time, yielding to survive, yielding to defuse the opponent’s aggression, and yielding to preserve essential relationships. A wise person, when entangled in litigation, maintains a balanced attitude. The ability to be tolerant is a virtue, for pursuing a lawsuit to the end is ominous— winning a case often plants the seed of future misfortune.

After all, no one competes in wisdom with a fool. No one hires a lawyer to win a case against a madman—for only the insane are obsessed with lawsuits. One must learn to yield.

Your financial luck is facing obstacles. The risk of disputes, arguments, or lawsuits looms ahead. An old saying goes: “Harmony brings prosperity.” Lawsuits not only drain wealth but also consume time and energy. To avoid conflict, one must know when to give way.

Fighting for territory is the instinct of animals; arguing is an act best avoided. Litigation is meant to determine right from wrong, but pursuing it is inauspicious. Even victory in a lawsuit can lead to disaster. Thus, a wise person avoids lawsuits unless absolutely necessary—and rather than fighting, they strive to win their opponent’s respect and admiration.

In this world, no one competes in wisdom with a beast. No one seeks judgment to triumph over a beast.
