Hexagram 24 – Return (The Turning Point) – Rich I Ching

Marital discord – “Betrayal and Deception”

The word “Phục” means “to resist” or “to turn against,” implying a change of heart. Symbolically, it represents discord in marriage.

At present, the situation is unfavorable— there is no genuine affection, only tolerance and compromise, which may bring temporary stability at best.

Commentary:

The relationship between husband and wife is rooted in the balance of Yin and Yang—it is the foundation of all things. If Yang is lacking, Yin becomes extreme; if Yin is missing, Yang cannot grow. True harmony arises when Yin follows and aligns with Yang. However, when Yin resists or opposes Yang, relationships collapse, leading to family discord and suffering.

“Phục” also signifies cycles and repetition. The I Ching states:  The path of Return is smooth; comings and goings bring no harm. Friends remain blameless. Reversals are part of the way.”

This means that even amidst change, the fundamental nature of things remains consistent. The ups and downs in life and business are inevitable—what rises will fall, and what falls can rise again. When your business is thriving, prepare for challenges ahead. When it struggles, do not despair. By dedicating yourself to improvement and adapting your strategy, you can turn setbacks into opportunities.

Application in Business:

A business facing difficulties must focus on recovery and transformation by adjusting strategies, seizing new opportunities, and rebuilding trust with customers and employees. Patience, perseverance, and the willingness to implement necessary reforms will be the key to sustainable growth and long-term success.
